Phillips selects GK industrial

The Guildford headquarters of electronics giant, Philips was probably one of thousands of UK offices experiencing problems with its air conditioning systems. As well as being aware of the working environment, Philips as a company is increasingly conscious about the environmental impact of rising energy consumption.
In support of Philips Sustainability policy, the company decided in July to improve the working environment and review its energy consumption within its headquarters by awarding a contract to GK Industrial Ltd to supply ongoing maintenance and management of its air conditioning system.

As a result, we took measures to review our air conditioning system from both working and environmental perspectives.”
The large three story Surrey offices of Philips Electronics had been experiencing issues with its internal air conditioning solutions. The results of which included low productivity levels and an increasing number of complaints from its employees based at the site.
GK Industrial approached the facilities management team at Philips and offered a free survey looking into the condition and performance of its air conditioning system. Philips agreed and GK Industrial engineers performed the initial survey over a single weekend. A number of issues were uncovered, where the air conditioning was under performing, resulting from faults throughout the system.
Following the initial findings, Philips commissioned GK Industrial to carry out a further investigation that was carried out over a longer period of time during three weekends during which numerous issues were uncovered.
“The investigations that GK Industrial team carried out meant that we did not need to invest in upgrading or installing a new system, but look to a much more cost effective ongoing maintenance contract of our existing system, working with GK Industrial," continued Lorraine Andrew.
The work with GK Industrial has brought about significant cost savings resulting from eradicating the need for a substantial investment in upgrading the system. They also revealed that the boiler and systems were coming on at inappropriate times during the day and night. Philips has already seen marked cost savings on its energy bills and in turn is reducing its impact on the environment.

The site signals exciting times for GK, who are currently re-vamping their marketing activities, with a new brochure and company branding activities aiming to raise GK’s profile within existing and new industry sectors.
